"The Breeders is a YA dystopian read that's as gritty and dark as the cover and title suggest. It takes a look at how society might devolve if females were commodities: bought, sold, stolen, and traded to keep the dwindling human race going. Frightening concept. I loved it." --A.G. Henley, author of The Scourge

Hell's Hollow - Summer Stone Excerpt & Giveaway

Blurb

When Seraphina was younger, she healed her best friend's injured hand. Terrified by the inexplicable cure, the girl shunned her. From that day on, Seraphina found herself without friends, a freak and an oddity. And so she obeyed her mother’s rule to refrain from using her innate ability, heeded her mother's warning that its use could land her in the local mental health facility alongside her aunt and grandmother.

But when sixteen-year-old Seraphina finds a mysterious, wounded boy hiding in the hollow in the woods behind her house, she can't hold out against the overpowering urge to help him. She is drawn to him each night, and as they come to know one another, their irresistible attraction blooms.

She longs to uncover his secrets — where he comes from and why he's hiding and how he came to be so wounded — and to share her own, though she knows it's forbidden. And while her healing touch seems to be helping him, it's hurting her. When the symptoms of psychosis — experienced by the women in her bloodline who used their powers — begin to plague Seraphina, she is faced with the unbearable choice of saving her sanity or the boy she’s come to love.

Excerpt

“I’m not afraid,” he said. “I’m only afraid of hurting you.”

My heartbeat sped up. “You can’t,” I replied. “Just sit here beside me.”

“If it doesn’t work, don’t be disappointed,” he said, tugging at his jeans.

“It’s okay,” I said, thinking he was the one that was worried it wouldn’t work. “I’m nervous, too. We won’t know until we try.” It had been a long time since I’d healed a person. I imagined roots growing down from my body, intertwining with the roots of the sequoia for strength. “Okay,” I said, “here we go.”

Our eyes met. Heat pulsed between us. I put my hands on his knees — they were solid, he had to be real. I dropped my shield. At once the power of The Hollow smashed into me along with the pain of Zach’s wounds.

The feeling of damage overwhelmed me. So much damage. The Hollow poured into the deadened, wounded areas. But it was as if they were so starved for healing they pulled me in along with them. And inside there, below the damage raged a raw, rancid pain — as if his initial wounds had been reopened. They burned like nothing I’d ever imagined. It shocked me, like lightning strikes from within. I needed to pull away. It was too much. I couldn’t bear it. I was terrified I’d kill him. But I didn’t know how to pull back, how to make it stop.

And there was this magnetism between us that held me to him. I couldn’t let go. I couldn’t breathe. I reared back, pulling The Hollow into myself. Zach’s pain was so huge, I couldn’t hold it. My head felt like it would split open. I lost all sense of my own body as I fell into the raging chasm.

The Soul Keeper - M W Russell Book Review

Book 2 in The Castle Trilogy - Teen Paranormal Romance

Would their love go on as promised—forever and a day?

The Governance has had the final say. Joseph has been banished. With a broken heart Melodie must go back to her mortal world at Heartworth Castle without the arms of her ghost around her, without the warmth of his smile.

But some hope still remains. The surprising gift that her housekeeper Kate has shown her may just be the key. Can Melodie and her friends find the silver book and bring Joseph back? And who is this Irish stranger who clumsily lends a hand?

The thrilling next installment in The Castle Series, The Soul Keeper will keep you glued to every page.

My Thoughts !

Magical and Memorable !

The second Book in the Castle series, - The Soul Keeper by Maree continues from where we left off.

Melodie is heartbroken at the loss of Joseph to the other side, but here in this instalment we meet new and quirky characters that entwine with the characters that Maree has already put forth in her first instalment.

We are taken on a journey of discovery for Melodie – and a journey of all sorts for other characters.

Love, suspense, dramas and a worlds that one could only imagine.

With the adventure that Maree takes us on in this instalment we laugh along the way, get teary eyed for the characters and watch as the friendships and bonds grow stronger then in book one. We are taken on a rollercoaster ride - of ups and downs in this book and it keeps your fingers gripped at every page turn.

This author paints such vivid details into her stories. A world filled with magic, characters that grow within every page, and a story to tell, to anyone of all ages. The writing is crisp, the storyline well written and the characters that Maree has created are certainly memorable and most likeable.

I enjoyed all the characters that Maree has put forth within this story, I have to say I giggled at many antics within this story, it had a lighter feel at many times, but also many darker ones that you won’t see coming.

Alex was a hoot – and I have to say I admired Melodies persistence with him. (( snickers ))

The relationship and story that forms between Melodie and Joseph is strong, innocent, yet heart-warming and loving. You can’t help but feel for Melodie with her struggles to get the silver book back and her lost love a well.

We see Her character grow with each instalment - from being a Wallflower to someone having many special friends and finding a love that one can only dream of. ( sigh )

A few twists and turns are also present – they will certainly have you wandering where she is taking us within the story.

Reading Maree’s stories are like being within the pages, her passion for the world she has created shines through her writing – her wonderfully scripted characters are brought to life within each page and her story tells a story that is unique and memorable. A must read series for all the young at heart and for all those who enjoy being taken to another world among words.

The book is a ya paranormal – (young adult) but I recommend this book to anyone of any age who fears to dream a little magic...

Imitation by Heather Hildenbrand Book review & Giveaway

IMITATION - HEATHER HILDENBRAND

Everyone is exactly like me.

There is no one like me.

The rough fabric of my cotton nightgown chafes so I lie very still.

They say my discomfort comes from being built like one accustomed to niceties.

How is that fair when I myself have never experienced anything but copies of the real thing?

My entire life is an imitation.

I am an Imitation.

I’ve been here five years. Training. Preparing. Waiting.

And now I have a letter.

My assignment has begun.

I am a prisoner.

I am not Raven Rogen.

I am here to die.

My review'

Ya Dystopian - Romance - Fiction

4 1/2 stars

Imitation is such a perfect title for this new series written by Heather Hildenbrand. Her vast creativity never ceases to amaze me and this new Ya Dystopian is all of its own. Certainly unique with a captivating and intriguing storyline to keep the reader engaged at every page turn.

Imitations  are cloned for the purpose of being an exact replicate of an authentic. Authentic being a real human being.  In Imitation we meet Ven she is sent on a mission to find out who is targeting her authentic Raven Rogan but deep in the back of her mind she knows this maybe a mission she will never return from.

As the story unfolds we are given doubt, mystery , romance and twists and turns throughout this story. It certainly had me guessing as to what may happen . This story is certainly unpredictable by any means and I really enjoyed Heather's creativity in this story.

I wont go into the storyline at all. But do expect this to be an ongoing series. I eagerly await what may happen next and in which direction she will take us.

I enjoyed Ven's character - she was a strong , dependable person whom despite the circumstances realizes her job is to be someones IMITATION. A clone made to be expendable.

The romance between Ven and Linc was gradual and sweet, not a rushed love story for sure. This I enjoyed much so.

The tone of the underlying storyline may come off as a little darker then Heather' previous books but it certainly is filled with a possibility that may just happen in the future ( raises eyebrows)

For all who enjoyed the movie The Island - they will really enjoy this story.   And if you haven't watched it you must .. You really have to think of the possibility of something happening like - its kinda creepy . lol

Each character relates to the next and we certainly see them blended in well with the mystery behind Twig City and also who is after Raven.

Overall, an enjoyable short read by Heather and I certainly look forward to finding out more in the upcoming stories.

Hooked by Liz Fichera Book review

Title: Hooked
Author: Liz Fichera
Release Date: 1st February 2013
Published by: Harlequin Teen
Genre: Young Adult

Goodreads Description

When Native American Fredericka ‘Fred’ Oday is invited to become the only girl on the school’s golf team, she can’t say no. This is an opportunity to shine, win a scholarship and go to university, something no one in her family has done.

But Fred’s presence on the team isn’t exactly welcome — especially not to rich golden boy Ryan Berenger, whose best friend was kicked off the team to make a spot for Fred.

But there’s no denying that things are happening between the girl with the killer swing and the boy with the killer smile...

Review

Not your usual Romeo and Juliet love story. But a wonderfully written story about two people from different sides of town and the love of Golf.

This story is unique of its own, not your normal ya. But the reader will certainly enjoy and be able to envisage the setting this story is set in. The author has done a wonderful job of putting forth Fred and Ryan’s friendship - the surroundings and also the storyline within. At first Fred is unsure about another rich boy, but in time the friendship grows and Fred and Ryan form a bond.

Fred is a Native American girl, and Ryan is the golden rich boy. They meet through the love of Golf and Fred has a killer swing. Fred tries out and gets a spot on the boy’s golf team and the story does revolve around Golf :)

She is surrounded by rich boys, who have everything they could want, and Fred’s aim is to get a scholarship and do what she loves most.

There wasn’t a lot of romance in the book, but none the less I still enjoyed this much so. Fred was given a hard time, and I have to say at times I did feel sorry for her. But saying this She was a tough character and never let this deter her love of golf or dampen her persona.

It was certainly nice to read a book that involves a sport that someone so passionately enjoyed and loves. I am not a big golf person, but did enjoy this book anyway. Some terms did confuse me, but I did look them up to make sure I knew what I was reading. ( lol ) For all those readers who don’t play golf don’t let this steer you away it’s still a wonderful Ya story.

No sex involved, a little talk and a few f words thrown in as well. But overal a story for 16 plus .

Overall, a must read Ya story to add to your list, with a twist you won’t see coming ;)

I do prefer the Aussie cover to this one. I think this cover is slightly misleading as it certainly doesnt come across as romantic as this cover.

Thank you to Harlequin teen australia for supplying me with this book to review for my honest opinion.

A mark that might tear Jake and Emma apart forever.

MY REVIEW

This series just gets better with each installment. The rush while reading this story was adrenaline pumping. Filled with kick arse action right till the last page has been turned. The romance is sweet, the mystery is suspenseful and the storyline is like a raging river flowing at full speed.

I enjoyed all the twists and turns in this installment. And certainly cant wait for more of the Violet Night trilogy !

Lynn has a knack for dragging you into her story. At every page turn, every suspenseful part and even the moments where you heart is racing.

A few twists and turns are thrown in - and I have to say I enjoyed this just as much as the first instalment if not more .

Her characters are well fleshed out, the descriptions well envisaged and the author gives us a well balanced story filled with all the goodies one could want in a story.

I enjoy this story much so, for its uniqueness !! its different, enticing and certainly riveting till the very last word.

The story is well written, and it leaves the reader wanting more.

A great second instalment in this Violet Night series.

(( love the cover ))

Thank you to Lynn Rush for supplying this arc copy for review for my honest opinion. This review is posted as to my enjoyment of this story.

Mia HoddellAbout the Author
Mia Hoddell lives in the UK with her family and two cats. She spends most of her time writing or reading and her preferred genre is Young Adult, Paranormal Romance. Before 2009, Mia wouldn't even pick up a book and was more interested in sports. However she finally found some novels that captured her interest and developed a love of both reading and writing. Mia began with poems and after getting two published in separate anthologies she moved onto short stories. Although she enjoyed this, Mia found she had too much to tell with too little space, so later on she created her first series The Wanderer Trilogy and from there other ideas have emerged which she hopes to turn into novels as well. Elemental Killers is her second series and book two will be out soon.
